Senior Manager of UI/UX

As part of this growing team, ShapeShift is looking to hire the unique role of a Sr Manager of UI/UX.

 Position Overview

ShapeShift is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of UI/UX to solve difficult user experience challenges and build product interfaces on the platform that engage and delight users. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in an innovative space, pioneering how customers use and interact with a non-custodial Digital Asset platform.

The ideal candidate will exude passion, enthusiasm and ambition to take design to the next level through detailed strategic plans that push more traditional boundaries. In other words, this leader will be obsessed with good user-centric design practices that drive a customer experience from start-to finish in order to deliver results, which connect emotionally to the platform. This well-rounded UI/UX professional will have the ability to connect the dots between business needs, innovation, and good design.

To succeed in this role, the Sr Manager will have a great eye for detail, demonstrate creative problem solving, use data in decisions, and possess strong leadership abilities. This leader will be passionate about understanding current and emerging UI/UX trends and how to innovate based on outcomes. While this role will be a very hands-on position at first, it provides an opportunity to build both a strategy and team from the ground up.

 This is a full-time position, based in Denver, Colorado and reports to the COO.

 Goals of Position

  • Design and deliver the vision, strategy and roadmap encompassing research, testing, and visual design to set a standard for the ShapeShift user experience based on the brand, business requirements and technical limitations
  • Conceive and conduct user research, interviews, and surveys to translate them into sitemaps, user flows customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences
  • Manage, prioritize, and communicate the pipeline of design projects across the company in an agile framework
  • Gather and evaluate user requirements, in collaboration with functional teams, including but not limited to, product, marketing, engineering, and QA, on design and backend implementation for various presentation layers of company’s applications
  • Present rough drafts of mockups, prototypes, and analysis to key stakeholders and leadership with expert communication on the “why” and the “what” in order to inspire the team to deliver on the “how”
  • Research and analyze industry UI/UX trends and competitor sites
  • Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions, within current user experience, that balances an optimal user experience with business goals and priorities
  • Conduct and facilitate requirements, design, and implementation reviews
  • Build, manage, and develop a team, when appropriate, focused around UI/UX product design
  • Create success metric KPIs through the use of customer engagement data and user benchmarks

 Success Metrics of Position

  • Timely delivery of design project pieces
  • Thorough understanding and alignment of desired user experience and aesthetics of the user interface through presentation and communication across all stakeholders
  • Consistency of brand and user experience across products, features, tools, and services
  • A user experience that is intuitive, beautiful and compelling to the targeted demographic, which results in an empowered user who is engaged with all aspects of the platform
  • Product adoption to newly targeted user groups
  • Development of a baseline and improvement in memberships, average order value (AOV), Net promoter score (NPS), increased trades/wallet purchases and other such user metrics
  • Formation of an internal team that is efficient in project deadlines, innovative in design, and disciplined with processes

 Job Skills

  • Proven experience with creating and revising information architecture documents and diagrams from concept to production
  • Strong sense of team spirit, while being able to work individually to lead and be the decision-maker on the ShapeShift customer experience
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Ability to iterate designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently
  • A solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), planning, and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, usability, and accessibility concerns
  • Ability to clearly and efficiently communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and clients, and use constructive feedback to iterate on concepts
  • Proven experience with synthesizing abstract ideas across multiple stakeholders into concrete design implications
  • Demonstrated passion about all things UX and other areas of design and innovation
  • Knowledge in the industry’s latest trends and technologies and established outlets to stay current
  • Hunger to innovate and create in an unchartered product landscape and early stage, competitive, and rapidly changing ecosystem
  • A zest for design perfection, while the ability to operate within an “MVP” environment if required
  • Strong analytic capabilities
  • Ability to multitask and assist with projects simultaneously
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change during a project
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitate methods for user research

 Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, design or computer relevant field preferred
  • 5+ Year Experience as UI/UX Designer at tech firm or related industry
  • 2+ Year Leadership Experience, ideally within Design Team
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in designing simplified solutions within a complex, pioneering industry
  • Portfolio of work showcasing excellent in product and visual design
  • Experience in mobile, web, and native design
  • Expertise in standard UX software such as Sketch, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, Adobe, or UXPin
  • Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus
