Modern Web UI/UX Designer

We're looking for T shaped people

We're looking for YOU, the passionate and pragmatic designer of Web Application software. As a member of our small team, you'll be involved in every aspect of product design, from plan to production, collaborating directly with client stakeholders (C-level executives), product managers, designers, developers, and operation personnel. You must be able to collaborate well with these roles and understand their perspectives for how it impacts your design. We are looking for a long term relationship with someone seeking full time work. This position requires on-site work in our Raleigh, NC office.

You have confidence and the experience to show it

You'll be specialized in Web Application design with a solid understanding of CSS and mobile-first design patterns and frameworks. You will have dabbled in the latest Flexbox patterns or used SemanticUI, Bootstrap, or Foundation design systems. You’re familiar with component/atomic design and building design systems. You’ll have a strong eye for design and know when to follow or break common design patterns.

You care about your design toolkit and third-party service providers -- with preferences for Sketch, Framer, or Figma. You know how to work with a team of designers through version control, and deliver pixel-perfect interactive prototypes through Invision or Figma. Most importantly, you've been a part of shipping products and are looking for constant improvement.

Within 30 days, you will start

  • Iterate on wireframes, mockups, and prototypes designed by our design lead

  • Provide and receive constructive feedback on designs
  • Maintain version control of designs to maintain high design quality
  • Join a product manager on a client project to learn how we communicate with clients
  • Target 30% billable and 70% rampup time
  • Attend local community events to integrate into the wider Triangle design community

Within 60 days, you'll grow

  • Transpose product requirements into pragmatic visual designs for our Prototype service
  • Develop leadership responsibilities as a designated design leader on a client product
  • Target 80% billable and 20% internal time to research and improve to non-client efforts
  • Stay on top of the latest design method changes within the design community

Within 90 days, you'll be comfortable

  • Lead a local community event or meetup discussion
  • Kick off new products under the Vaporware lean design and development process
  • Estimate design needs for new products or features
  • Recommend design solutions to client problems
  • Architect scalable design systems into UI kits

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of CSS layouts and design limitations
  • Performed UX user testing and consolidated/interpreted feedback
  • Basic understanding of version control for visual designs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Self-motivated and self-manageable, with a proven ability to multi-task and operate successfully under tight deadlines and time pressures

Extra Credits
