Senior UI/Visual Designer

We are looking for a UI designer who brings the best of both worlds: UI design skills + illustration & graphic abilities. You will be involved in both UI design with our Product team (this will be how you spend most of your time) and with our Commercial team, supporting Marketing and Brand initiatives with your creativity.

This is a remote-first position and you will report to our Head of Product. You will closely collaborate with our UX Designer to ensure that user needs are met, and with engineers to incorporate technical requirements, as well as spend time with our users, founders, and advisors. You’ll establish yourself as a critical part of our growth, offer ideas and input, have the freedom to act on your instincts, and leave your mark on Unlock.

🏗️ The day-to-day

• Own the visual execution for Unlock's digital presence both within the product and across our diverse visual channels such as website, landing pages, emails, social media, etc.
• Deliver next-level visual designs that stunningly and functionally communicate our brand via our user interface.
• Collaborate with the product team and developers, adjusting your specs and deliverables to meet product requirements and limitations.
• Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows, user journeys, personas and the other tools in your UX/UI arsenal.
• Figma is our weapon of choice when it comes to UI design and you will be producing pixel-perfect designs for different device types and scenarios, and collaborate with developers to make them real.
• Use graphical illustration tools of your choice to effectively produce high quality vectors and illustrations and work as a close partner with the Commercial team to create graphic assets for social media campaigns and other brand initiatives.
• Communicate ideas effectively to the wider team, taking on board comments and feedback as part of the creative process.
• Develop and maintain in a scalable way key Product UI assets such as wireframes, prototypes, and other relevant UI specifications.

• Able to share with us an online portfolio supporting your proven design experience that demonstrates strategic, visual, and creative thinking.
• Strong knowledge of visual design theory and fundamentals (e.g. Art and visual perception, typography, grid systems, colour theory, iconography, branding, layout, user-system interaction)
• In-depth knowledge of the tools to produce next-level UI design and good understanding of how to best utilise the UX artefacts in the UI design process.
• Have a keen eye for aesthetics and brand awareness along with expertise in Figma and other visual design tools. Any prior experience with motion graphics, web design or prototyping is a great plus.
• Know how to balance craft, speed, and technical limitations rather than getting stuck on making the prettiest possible UI.
• Ability to develop simple and elegant design solutions to solve complex design problems.
