Product Designer

Say hello to Newton — Canada's first low-cost cryptocurrency trading platform. We see a future where financial systems are open to everyone and built to empower people to embrace financial freedom. We believe cryptocurrency plays a role in that future, so we're making it more accessible to Canadians.

Newton team members are spread out across Canada within a fully-remote capacity.

We're looking for a Product Designer whose primary focus is to help evolve the Newton product and to deliver a best in class user experience to our customers. As part of the design department, you’ll report to the VP of Design and get an opportunity to work in small cross-functional teams to craft journey’s and features that delight our users.

Moreover; our team is responsible for company-wide creative output, so there is always a variety of projects and opportunities to challenge yourself and learn new skills that you may not have had the opportunity to learn in other product roles (illustration, animation, physical product design, etc.)

As a Product Designer, you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with a cross functional team of product and development folks to design how Newton’s products and features look, feel, and move.
  • Driving the user research and the discovery process to inform your work
  • Designing and iterating on solutions based on the team’s research, customer needs, and business objectives
  • Owning and managing end-to-end communications throughout the design process, including running design critiques, handing off to developers, and discussing solutions with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinating with developers to assess technical constraints for your designs, and work with the Product Manager to make the right tradeoffs between user experience & development complexity
  • Owning the design process for your project, and being vigilant in diagnosing UX and UI problems
  • Collaborating with a fast-moving team, in a stimulating and ever-evolving environment that prioritizes autonomy and professionalism over micromanagement

Must haves:

  • You are an overall product design expert with deep expertise spanning web, desktop, and mobile contexts
  • You are just as comfortable with quantitative and qualitative research as working through high fidelity designs with multiple states
  • You have successfully shipped multiple products and understand the ‘gotchas’ that are required for a successful outcome
  • You possess not just tactical product design skills, but the ability to implement strategic and conceptual thinking that can guide on-the-ground decisions as well (thinking about scalability, future proofing, etc.)
  • You have a compelling portfolio of work that demonstrates high-quality design work that also tells a story that you are a deep design thinker
  • You love exploring the latest and greatest in design tools while keeping emerging design patterns and visual treatments on your radar
  • You have experience working in a highly iterative environment and understand the importance of presenting multiple options before landing on the right one

Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience working as a visual or digital designer on an in-house or agency creative team
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Design field or equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of Interaction design principles and the ability to drive early discovery and user research activities
  • Masterful command of digital design principles and experience in creating and managing complex digital products, design systems, and clickable prototypes
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and a strong command of working within Webflow
  • Have motion graphics knowledge and experience and can define micro-interactions to go with their design solutions (bonus points for prototyping software like Protopie / Principle)
  • Experience with a modern product design toolchain that includes: Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (bonus points if you are comfortable with AfterEffects), Miro, Jira, etc.

Please include these in your application:

  1. Resume / past work experience
  2. Links to your portfolio or past projects
  3. A brief message about what you hope you get from the next chapter of your career and what you believe sets you apart from other product designers

At Newton, we celebrate our inclusive work environment and welcome members of all backgrounds and perspectives to apply. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations and will work with you to meet your needs. If you are a person with a disability and require assistance during the application process, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
