Gift Designer

Please note: this is not Graphic Design position. This is a mid-level, hands-on/ crafting position creating and developing gifts from concept to presentation.

The Gift Designer is responsible for developing and sourcing new products to meet customer specifications, and understanding cost structures and pricing to develop gifts that are unique, value and brand represented. This is a fast paced, multi-tasking, high volume environment working collaboratively and independently on customer projects.

The ideal designer has hands-on experience creating and developing gifting lines while working with a sourcing team to develop new products. A creative background in design or in a related industry (gifts, hard-goods, soft-goods, floral), and has a natural ability to keep up with current and in-high-demand design trends.

The primary responsibilities:

  • Design and build and price food, candy, liquor & specialty gifts for Catalog/E-commerce, Wholesale/Mass customers and Special/Custom Order accounts.
  • Analyze costs and price point gifts to meet target margins.
  • Source and select containers and reusable components for use in the gifts for customer accounts.
  • Contribute to the development gifts in all stages of design and revise to meet company and customer specifications.
  • Assist and support to upper management with facilitating design assignments.
  • Attend and assist with customer presentations.
  • Daily reporting and upkeep via Excel and email-Outlook.
  • Researching and developing knowledge of current design trends as they apply to gift development.
  • Provide creative direction to the Graphics team for gift, product design.
  • Identify reusable and food products to source for unique and cost effective gift development.
  • Create and detail sourcing requests.

Administrative and Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide written status reports/updates and responses on pending projects including presentations, recaps and sourcing requests via Excel or Outlook/email communication.
  • Attend design, sales and sourcing team meetings.
  • Must be in continuous training on all aspects of the Inventory, Costs and Product Development of consumable products used in gifting.
  • Provide assistance and direction to support staff in gift preparation
  • Maintain and organize account paperwork for all customer accounts.
  • Contribute to and assist with various tasks related to the design process as directed by management.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Light to moderate lifting of gifts, baskets required up to 35 pounds.
  • Occasional use of ladder at times to access containers, accessories and food items in the Design areas.

Typical Working Conditions:

  • Office/design room environment but will have access and need to work in the warehouse to access inventory and gift samples.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • MS-Office with a high proficiency Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Must have price pointing knowledge/skills.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed (voluntary and mandatory).

Education:

  • AA, BA in a Design/Creative Arts discipline or equivalent experience.

Experience-Minimum of 3 years:

  • Design experience in a creative capacity including: gift products, hard goods or soft goods.
  • Analyzing costs and price points.
  • Sourcing products Internationally.
