Brand Design Lead

We're dedicated to helping people connect and stay close with the people, groups, and communities they care about. Here at Geneva, we're building a better group chat app to support these relationships: more organized than GroupMe or iMessage, more private than Facebook Groups, and more fun than Slack.

We’re growing our design team to help us bring the Geneva brand to life. Our Brand Design Lead at Geneva will be responsible for charting the course for Geneva’s brand, across all touchpoints.

About You

As a brand design lead, you’ll take a genuine interest in helping to guide and develop others on the team. You’re organized, a proactive mentor and a caring, sensitive leader.

You want to join a team where design plays a vital and integral role within the company and how it shows up in the world. You love our aesthetic, understand our brand, and have the skills and design sensibility to seamlessly integrate your work, and to build on and evolve our style.

Your design portfolio communicates excellent craft and breadth, showcasing a strong foundation of composition, color, imagery, and iconography. You have superb layout, typography, and graphic design skills, and have demonstrated mastery in creating and building new, high-concept, innovative ideas that impact company goals.

You approach your work from a clear creative perspective. You enjoy thinking holistically about brand systems, and can clearly articulate your strategic thought process and design decisions.

As a teammate, you enjoy collaboration and transparent, frequent communication. You enjoy the excitement and variety of managing multiple project timelines, managing relationships between agencies and freelancers, while keeping your team in the know, and sharing regular progress cross-functionally.

About the Role

Design is a cornerstone for how Geneva communicates its story and shares its mission. We view our brand as the backbone of what makes Geneva special to the communities that use the product every day.

This is an end-to-end role, working across the design spectrum: from quick, rough strategic ideation to polished final deliverables across various mediums. You will:

  • Play a lead role in developing and evolving our visual identity, voice & tone, style guides, and iconography systems. Your core outcome is creating a cohesive and effective brand ecosystem that resonates across design, marketing, content, and growth.
  • Provide creative direction across a variety of mediums, working closely with internal and external teams and stakeholders on brand and design projects.
  • Provide brand-aligned creative deliverables for unique editorial and experiential marketing campaigns, merchandise, collateral, and more.
  • Manage timelines, organize workflows, and provide clear feedback to other team members.

This Role's Right For You If

  • You have excellent communication, leadership/mentorship, and collaboration skills — especially working with teams remotely, across time zones
  • You have several years of relevant work experience with branding, communication design, advertising, and/or marketing. Work within an early stage start-up environment is a plus
  • Expert-level skills with proven and emerging tools for design and prototyping (including Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, and other tools)
  • You've worked on projects that have contributed meaningfully to key business goals and outcomes, and value the results of your work as a key indicator of success in your role
  • Professional experience being a part of collaborative, cross-functional teams with Designers, Product Managers, PMMs, Copywriters, and Marketers
  • Proven ability to manage and guide other project teams, and to prioritize and design according to business and technical requirements
  • You’ve been comfortable in ambiguous environments and have successfully managed changes in direction, especially as a lead team member

We're an equal-opportunity employer committed to building a diverse team and an environment of inclusion and belonging. Research indicates that applicants who are people of color, female or non-binary are less likely to apply for roles they do not feel 100% qualified for. We encourage everyone who's interested to apply, even if you're not sure you match the full description listed above.

Why You'll Love This Job

  • Complex design problems. You're here to solve complex design and branding problems, as part of a cross-functional team with other designers, marketers, product managers, engineers, and community leaders.
  • Groups and communities love using Geneva. You'll be designing for a beautiful, fully-featured product that thousands of people already love. This is a working, delightful product that delivers genuine value to its users.
  • Fully remote, for real. We won't be sending you or anybody else back to the office (unless you want to be there). We're remote-first and have always been.
  • We default to trust, transparency, and autonomy. We trust you with the toughest design challenges in the company, and respect the expertise you're bringing to the team. You'll organize and direct your own tasks, and never have to wait around for somebody to tell you what to do.

Other Perks and Benefits Include

  • Competitive, location-agnostic compensation. We pay based on the same data-backed salary framework, no matter where you live. For this role, we've budgeted $110,000-130,000 USD + equity, based on experience and level.
  • Excellent, fully paid options for health, dental, and vision
  • Open vacation policy with 15-day minimum, unlimited sick days (with support for mental health days), and company-wide holidays
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave
  • Everything you need to do your job well, including equipment and home office budget, paid coworking expenses, learning and development budget, and wellness stipends
  • Twice annual company retreats (when we're able to safely gather), all expenses paid
