Director of Experience Design

The Experience Design practice at the Nerdery is a collective of multidisciplinary experts that show up everyday to create innovative digital products, services, and experiences that improve the way we interact with the world around us. We are passionate, ready collaborators who are unafraid to explore the boundaries of what’s possible.

We are seeking a Director of Experience Design to help drive business and human impact for our teams and partners. They are expected to be client-facing, broadly-flexible domain experts with excellent communication skills, and leadership qualities. They will help drive the strategic vision, perspective, and execution of the Experience Design practice within the Nerdery, champion world-class solutions that deliver value to our clients and their customers, and partner with all departments to shape and drive our design practices through cross-functional collaboration. 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Evangelize the role of Experience Design plays in client and project success, forming and improving collaborative relationships and processes across the business 
  • Provide direction and leadership within Experience Design team related to high quality design work, client consultation, project success, department initiatives and activities
  • Conduct and facilitate client workshops
  • Lead Experience Design of complex client engagements including multi-channel experience, visioning and new product development
  • Drive long view vision of the experience to support product roadmaps
  • Able to use situational analysis of the customer, technology and business, research and analytics, competitive analysis to translate gaps and opportunities into a future vision
  • Able to lead the experience architecture including overall journeys, design direction and patterns to frame execution of the experience design
  • Support growth of the business by supporting and developing pitches, new service offerings, and lead generation
  • Demonstrate thought leadership and subject matter expertise in multiple areas of Experience Design with a strong background in product development
  • Partners with domain leads to drive company's product design framework
  • Grow and improve the Experience Design practice such as capabilities, best practices, ways of working
  • Inspire, lead and grow a world class team of Experience Design including direct engaging in performance management and hiring

Education/Experience 

  • 8+ years experience as a leader in Experience Design field 
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • 4+ years of direct reports
