OK... how the crap do u "mention" someone using the @ symbol?? i know it's possible? i tried someone's user name .. and someone full name.. neither worked?? HELP! (i've been away too long)

@Eric — That's probably the best way to go. Though, you could just have an empty tag with a title attribute, too. I believe that'd be read aloud via a screen reader, same as if you had text inside the tag.

Slight update: I actually ended up killing off the solid horizontal border on table rows, since zebra striping is a strong enough (but subtle) contrast.

Another snippet of what I'm working on at Pure Charity.
In-browser screenshot of data table stylin'. CSS3 = No images.
Also, hat-tip to Twitter Bootstrap, for causing me to ponder "How'd they do that?" for rounding corners on a table.
Turns out, the magic-sauce is...
.table-class-here {
border-collapse: separate;
}...that allows tables and table-cells to be able to be rounded via border-radius. Woot.
