Nice but think the bg is unnecessary . the app would look alot cleaner with a flat background. Would be a nice touch if you gave the user the chance to set there background image them self (similar to viber) only once set it is blurred in the colour scheme of the image used.
V1 is a sexy color combination but I think for readability of the white text V2 is the better choice. However you could boost the contrast on V1. The biggest problem I see is the shift in color decreases or increases readability. I like the concept it's super slick 2012.
Well done dude! really clean UI! I think both versions are looking great, the two different backgrounds are almost communicating a mood. So maybe you could play with different backgrounds for different moods (sad, happy, excited, borred etc.)
I think you could have two different approaches, it only depends on how much budget you have for implementation.
1. The app could recognise key words through your conversation which will be associated with a certain background ( for example if you swear a lot, the background could turn in an "angry mood background" )
2. The easier way would be, that you can select your mood from a list, but that's not as fun as the first option...
I like v1 better. Text legibility looks a little stronger in v2, but I think a little treatment to the text bubbles would bring v1 up to par. Both look pretty fantastic, though.

Early wip of an iphone private messaging app I'm working on, witch background version do you prefer?
I know that blured backgrounds are a bit 2012 but i wanted to make one last app before they go completly out of style.

Looks really great, but how do you tell who wrote what? Different colors or?
I prefer the second option with the blue, it looks so fresh :)

@Mads P. Jørgensen yes, the white ones are your messages and the opaque black ones are incomming messages.

Good grief that's pretty and it looks quite usable also - yeah I'd use this for sure - great work @Virgil Pana

that is super nice. Love those colors. You could always give the user the option to change colors.
the 'haze' app has a similar feel and color scheme, but also has a cool function of 'unlocking' colors which makes the experience even more fun

@Virgil Pana I guess that comes natural when using it, i just got confused for a second.

V1 for me too, and like others have said, a choice of backgrounds would be good.

v1 is so whimsical and lovely. Love how subtle and fresh it is.

Both are beautiful but I prefer v1. I also think that the padding on input bar needs a bit more top and bottom padding.
Great work!
