    Making some progress on the thermometer app that we're playing around with over at robocat. Here you see a frozen state with a small subtle mention of yesterdays temperature.

    We've set up a development blog so you can follow along as we put this thing together, check out more over at robokitten.tumblr.com

    IMHO you should rotate one screw for a bit more realism. They're to even at the moment. Looking great!

    I love it but shouldn't it be part of the outside app? if i want to know something about the weather i don't want to tinker around with multiple apps...

    @David

    I've already had a few people suggest this, and i understand the sentiment, but here's why it won't be part of Outside. First of all Outside already has a pretty neat way of showing todays temperature - in fact Outside is build around that central piece of information smack in the middle of every screen. Having a separate screen for something like this would be kinda redundant. The visual language and the analogy that we've got going in Outside (looking out the window) just doesn't seem very compatible with the idea we've got going here.

    We feel that Thermo, conceptually, is a completely different thing than the full blown weather forecasting that Outside is. Not only is the graphic style different, but the idea is also that this truly is just about the temperature and nothing else. There seem to be a lot of people who just want the temperature, so this is an app aimed towards that kind of simplicity. It allows us to keep it small and nimble, start up time will (hopefully) be quicker than Outside, and we'll be able to price it accordingly making it more available. (more on this later)

    Ultimately working something like this into the existing framework of Outside would, both conceptually and technically, add weeks of development to attain a feature that's basically already in Outside. We feel that time is better spend elsewhere.

    At times when you want a more detailed weather forecast you'll use Outside, but for those quick moments when you just want a glance at the Temperature you'll use something like Thermo. In the end, it'll probably cater to two very different kind of people in different situations.

    ok fair enough during summertime, but for me in fall, winter and spring i care just as much about the amount of rain/snow/hail thats likely to hit me in the face.. temperature alone is not enough mostly.. That said i'd probably still buy the app just for it's looks though. Well done :)

    btw, the one thing i really miss in outside is an hour by hour overview.. this keeps me from using it to be honest.

    What's gonna happen when it's too hot outside? How will the thermometer change?

    Lovely as usual Michael. I have couple of points which you might have a look at:
    · The triangles on the rounded boxes are a tad to pointy for my taste
    · The screws look at bit rough, especially the cross white shadow
    · Try to add a bit of depth to the metal holder behind the thermometer
    · I would love to see a version with a brighter background

  23. When it get's hot, your thermometer in Thermo could look something like this. Btw, when do you guys feel the change from 'regular' to 'hot' should happen? 25 degrees? 30 degrees? hotter? (Celsius btw.)

    for me in Holland i consider 27 degrees hot. 25 is just pleasant, and 30 is swamping hot for us.
