@Sean Thompson I had this problem in my previous 'folio... You could implement a preloader. There's also an easy-ish way to specify which to load first (the 1st ones on every slide). Ultimately, decided the audience would wait a few seconds since it's likely most visiting would be using Chrome or FF on a fast internet connection, :)

Adding the finishing touches to my new portfolio. I want to have a few slideshows for some of the projects, and some description overlays.

@Susan Lin ❤ Yeah, I also used tinypng.org and saved about 70% in file-size, so they should load a bit faster now.
