Further to yesterday's shot I decided to explore the ninja star idea for the mark of 'Resume Ninja' (resumé writing service). I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. The colouring is temporary for now and may or may not be included in the final branding.
My personal favourite is the top left because I think it has just enough detail to give it more character.
I think this is a good next step in the process. To be honest though, I don't necessarily see a ninja star without knowing it's for "Resume Ninja". My eye was immediately drawn to the circle in the center of each logo and I can't help but see a radioactive symbol in the negative space. Perhaps work on the shape of the star to make it a more definitive, simplified ninja star shape. I still like the pen tip incorporated in there to keep the 'resume' aspect. Or maybe try another way of incorporating the 'resume' aspect because I think that is important and you can do something really clever. Good work so far, logos are an iterative process!
Thanks for your comments @Matt Emond! Clearly this is all WIP so I appreciate your feedback and will certainly consider your comments when developing the mark further.
I think I'm coming round the the pen idea top be honest but yea preferably try and tie in a resumè reference one way or another.
I totally get the thing about the 'radioactive' symbol - I've been thinking about that all along!
@Matt Emond PS. I think that's why I'm drawn to the three 'wired' versions come to think of it. Because the 'radioactive' symbol is no longer present in those. Hmmm...
I'd say the bottom right one gets the message across best. There's a little too much going on in some of the others to make the connection to Ninja or throwing star. Eg. The first one kinda looks like it has flower petals.
Thanks for your time @Ted Goas! Yea I'd never seen the petal thing until now. I was trying to make them look more like blades with those small points if I'm honest, but maybe that didn't quite work.
What is it about the bottom right that you like? I would have thought that was the weakest because of the 'radioactive symbol' reference and the fact that it lacks any detail at all. Or is that a good thing? I dunno...
@Ted Goas Absolutely. And I drew a fair few in my previous shot. This was just the one that I personally preferred so I decided to digitalise it first. I'll keep thinking/experimenting with yours and @Matt's advise in mind.

Yea, I can see the radioactive thing, but I like it most because it's the most simple. there are a ton of shapes for throwing stars.

I feel this looks more like a nuclear symbol. Just my opinion. But love the concept.
