I'm assuming that you're planning on having the icons update each time you come to a new page so they would change dependent on your history or place within the app. Would this make sense?

Totally. That's exactly the plan. And there is only so far you can go so it's not like there would be tons of icons. I like what you did, that's interesting by centering it like that.
