It's not rotated for the preview, it is rotated the standard rotation for icons such as Mail, TextEdit, etc. Check out the 512px preview to see the whole thing.
I use Illustrator as a crutch when designing icons such as these (particularly the 3D revolve tool), so as far as perspective goes, it should be "correct." I'm not saying it can't possibly be wrong in areas, just that it shouldn't be. Where are you seeing perspective issues?
i just find it a bit disconcerting that it's rotated about 20-30 degrees, yet you don't see the metallic rim on the left outer portion of the icon as one would expect.
Edit: either that or the right side is too prominent
I think the perspective issue may be due to the top right corner jutting out a bit too far. If you compare it against the TextEdit icon you can see that the paper is narrower at the top, as if leaning back as well as tilting. You look like you've got it rotated correctly, but only on one plane. I also agree with the previous comment about the inner radius needing to be made slightly smaller, so that the corners don't feel as heavy.
Am I the only person that dislikes the carbon fibre? I think it looks tacky.
Everything else is great. I can see how the perspective you have is technically 'correct', but I think the second example you showed is more correct.
Also, fix them fat corners :P
Very nice work, just a few points.
The inner shadow and inner glow at the top and bottom of the twitter bird seem way off, very pixely indeed. Lighting is perhaps a tad bit too strong on some areas.
I'm not sure that the metal rim is shadowed right too, seem like its facing in than out, maybe mess around with the highlights a bit?
The checkered inner border is very nice but needs a bit more depth to achieve its correct carbon fibre texture (I assume you are trying for?) Also a touch more shadow and to lower the size would make the bird seem less like its hovering, especially around the tail/tip. :)

Late night dribbble. There's probably some silly perspective/lighting/etc. issues, but I thought this was worth showing as an early version.
What are the thoughts?

Looking good so far :) Maybe the inners radius should be smaller though.

Looks good. The perspective feels a little off, but I think you might've rotated for preview's sake.
The lighting in the metallic portions on the bottom feels a little off with respect to dimensionality.
The lighting on the inside to demonstrate a cutout sort of waxes a little intense as well. Otherwise, I appreciate the rendering; it's cute!
Good work so far.

Also, the glow of the bird should be reflecting off of other elements as well since everything boasts reflective qualities.

It's only rotated 10 degrees, but perhaps. I can definitely try a version that has metal that extends past the base on the left edge.
I'm assuming you'd like something like this. In my opinion, both are "correct."

OK, OK. I'll change the perspective.
It's looking like this. http://dusc.me/ZJye
I'll also be doing a non-carbon fiber version. Perhaps just brushed metal like the default, although I'm not a fan of that either. We'll see.

Fixed some of the complaints (foremost of which is the perspective). Also finished up the 128 pixel size.
