Playing around with a simple no-fuss 'whats-the-temperature-outside' thermometer kinda app. I've got no idea if anyone would actually use something like this, i just find myself sometimes wanting to know how damn freezing it's out there, and nothing else. No bells and whistles, just an actual thermometer.
Oh and yes, i totally just crudely transformed that shot at an angle, so all antialiasing aside - would anyone use something like this? Good honest ideas are welcome, just having some fun here. :)
@Chris Well, Outside already has the temperature smack in the middle and i think that its got its own analogy and universe going for it. Besides Outside is really pulling in all sorts of data and giving you many inputs on what the weather is like - the idea with this app would be to have just the barebone temperature in a sleek little package.
@Johnny L-O-L i doubt apple would approve such an app, but man, maybe we can build it as an easter egg. The Penis-ometer
@Daniel Yeah it deff. needs to get the location off your GPS - but we probably also need a way for you to change it manually.
@Broderick Haha, great minds think alike.
@Jonah I love the thermometer on your site! I tried my hand at a 'skinnier' solution at first but ended up with this fatter one in the end.
@Martin I was thinking of having the bubbles animated. Also i think i'll have the color and appearance of the liquid change when it hit certain levels of temperature.
Anyone else have any good ideas? What do you call an app like this? Name suggestions?
Looks great Michael. Love the metal texture. Would lose the bubbles personally. I'm pretty sure thermometers aren't supposed to have bubbles in them... thinking back to my school days something crops up that it's a sign they're defective. Might be wrong.
I think your'e right Oliver - i was just so hooked on the idea that something animated inside, but perhaps it's better to just loose them all together. We can't have people thinking it's a defect thermometer. :)
Maybe, to please the critics, tap the bubble to expand it to a 5-day forecast? I'm a minimalist so I love it as is, but you know, simplicity won't please them all. :)

You could add this to Outside app

As long as it uses the GPS to determine my location and reads off of that, I would use it for sure!

Dude, you're fuckin' good.

You could have an adult version too, that is a giant penis. The colder it gets the smaller it gets. :-D
I wouldn't have thought of it, if you didn't position your screenshot like a boner.

Damn, that idea from Daniel is so nice.
Add a settings switch, so the gps thingy can be set as default withouth any userinteraction needed.
And nice shot for sure. :)

This looks awesome. But I would find it hard to believe that there isnt already a million apps that do this out there....

I love it! I think as an app it'd do great on the simplicity and beauty alone!

There is already an app like that on the App Store, but that app is just not that sexy!
