   I knew that the icon could live update with web apps, but never thought to use it like this! With native apps could change their icon dynamically.

   That's pretty cool. I can only guess: The number and background is combined in a canvas and then saved as PNG.. replacing the current icon?

   @simurai Basically yes — I'm drawing the icon with Canvas.

   Apple only allows icon changes within 1 second after app launch though, so had to make some pretty weird workarounds.
