I'm having a difficult time gathering sportsoid at a glance. I keep getting sportsold or sportsolo. I'm not sure why, could be the tight kerning or the graphic on top..maybe I am associating a flag with the word sold.
It's hard to give definite feedback without knowing the details of who the logo is for. Maybe add an asteroid or multiple astroids to really bring out the "oid". Maybe it could have wider kerning.
Also, the diagonal areas between the tops of the R, T, and S are not parallel, while it is between say the S/P and the O/I. Just something to tweak if you like.
Yeah I agree that Sportsoid is difficult to read but I think that might have more to do with the fact that I have never had to read that word than the fact that the logo isn't legible. However just now looking at the attachments I do find it easier to read when it is not contained inside of the rectangle. I think I like the simpler version better with the star incorporated into the flag. However this makes me think of Texas when it's in the flag which I don't do when it is outside of it. Soooo, if you want people to associate this with Texas then I think the simpler version nails it.
thanks for the feedback fellas! the battle with readability has been there from the start, check out this attachment to see where it's come from and also some potential remedies. any of those stand out the best? here they are in context.
@Andy Peninger i feel ya, see above for the readability fixes. also nice guess for the "oid" - but namesake is from a different origin
@Damaris Alfonso nice attention to detail, thanks. i'd tried playing around with it, but the problem with the T running parallel is that it has to have an awkward cut or end up being quite disproportionate (super long or super thin), so i think it works where it is now.
@Danny Johnson Junior - been through a bunch of different versions (about 90% of them with the star on the flag). i think in context of the logo texas won't be that strong of a connection, but that being said - how do you feel about the star being in the flag when that's just by itself, but remaining blank in the full lockup?
I personally think it would be best to treat it the same whether it is with the type or w/o. That being said, it doesn't mean that it can't work as two separate treatments. I guess I just feel like the flag is so prominent w/ the type lockup that the star is an afterthought but when the star is incorporated into the flag it becomes more of an important element. I guess the best answer would be if the design solution conveys the brand appropriately in either scenario than it is probably good to go.

I'm getting "sportsolo" or "sportsolid" as well.
