These are lovely.
Re: book, I don't find it heavy at all. My first instinct if you want to play with it would be to block off a lighter colour like it's a photo, or increase the leading in the lines to lighten it up.
I do find the lines separating the dynamite a bit too delicate for the style. Other than that they're perfect.

Those shadows are tasty! I would fill in the holes at the bottom of the key with the shadow gray, as that would be negative area that one would see through.
