@Sascha: Thanks for the feedback. I specifically added the dark border-top on the search field to make it look lowered into the background. If light is coming from above the border-top should be "correct", right?
@Stefan: Nice comment, thanks. I actually tried both and found the overall layout to be this less boxy with the solution above. There's also a logo on the left that look better with equal left- and top margin/space.

Outer stroke could reflect the light coming from above. I would invert the black 1px line. Looks great!
