Here is the first attempt to notification dropdown.
The notification bell icon goes blue (branding colour) only at mouse hover, otherwise grey. Below in the menu, each section has it's own color and takes it only when it has update, otherwise subtle grey (as seen at Profile visitors). This is mostly likely going to be revised.
Looks great. I love the colors.
My 2 cents.
I would even try just using the Blue in the '135' notification for all 'new' notifications. 47,79,8,1 all having a blue bg. This way You can tie one concept of blue meaning new and remove the '+' signs.
