A fun first attempt / messing around with some of the shading that I've been seeing in a lot of amazing designs. Trying to learn the ways... but obviously, I've got a ways to go... (2x version is a little more clear)
Anyone know of any good tutorials?

I've been working on this too recently. Please let me know if you find any good tuts. A friend sent me this the other day, hope it helps. http://vectips.com/tutorials/create-grainy-textures/
@Mattox Shuler @Peter Deltondo check this, maybe it'll help:
@Peter Deltondo, Thanks so much man
@Sean Fox Yes! That one's killer, thank you.
Looking good so far man, try making the dark parts a little more drastic so it's clear there is a fold/overlap

I attempted some gritty vector shading on a recent project. I used scans of dry brush paint strokes and set them up as art brushes in Illustrator. They were simple enough to manipulate, but really bogged down performance.
