   I would definitely give a try for the plain color @George Olaru, I've just messing around a bit ;). For the asymmetrical thing I'm not sure I like it

   Yes - it`s not better asymmetrical. Anyway I think it`s need some personality, because a lot of clepsydras looks like this - maybe rotate it at 90 and suggest somehow stopping time (maybe if the sand is at the half and isn`t flowing)
