   I've been very busy lately working on classes and client work, and I thought I'd show you guys what I've been up to!

   This icon was for the revamped version 2.0 of Pinna, a minimal, iOS-inspired music player for OS X with some awesome features.

   There's quite a bit of fine texture detail in this icon, so be sure to check out the full version. Hardest part was figuring out some interesting but unobtrusive album art :)

    The icon seems to be not anywhere close to as minimal as the actual app. Not sure why you went in that direction.

    @Erik Binggeser The original icon was this. Minimal, sure, but not very interesting or unique. For that, we felt it wasn't a good representation of the app.

    Now, hoping to find something better, the client and I went over several possible concepts. I sketched a broad spectrum, from minimal to abstract to realistic. The trouble with a "minimal" icon like the original [even if it was well-drawn!] is that, for this class of product, the icon wouldn't stand out at all. There are a ton of music playing apps on the app store, and most of them have a simple icon with a circle and a music note or play button or speaker.

    So, we went with this concept. It stands out among other icons, which is great. Yes it is detailed and realistic and has textures, but there are also several nods to the UI of the app in here meant to tie the two together. The same purple and blue colors, the same white-grey controls, the same semi-circular cutaway, etc.

    For that, I like this icon. If you don't–as is your right–you can always download a non-MAS version of Pinna and customize the icon yourself ;)
