ok further progress - the theme will have a single slide out sidebar that will contain your search, twitter feed, social icons etc - decided to go against previous themes with color options for everything as I want this theme to be incredibly simple to install and use in minutes / zero setup with the possibility of a single color picker for settings the sidebar, links etc color in one go.
Alternate posts will be different shades of gray to define the end of one and start of another visually. Fonts are super clean and very legible - even to the point of the text area being slimmer than the title and image area to establish the best length of a sentence for easier reading.
ok... more to come - appreciate any feedback so far (and check out the @2x for the true pixels)

Very clean! Nice progress from the brown! I like the red a lot better!!!
Nice rebound! Love the simplification of it all and of course the color. I'm really interested in the idea of the fly out sidebar, it's an idea I've been playing with myself, it definitely makes sense when taking into consideration how this week be vowed on mobile. That's where I think the hamburger menu works but not sure of it on desktop, it kinda hangs there un-anchored.
Maybe if it had a page title shown once expanded? Or each section vertically has an icon?
Just some thoughts, really great job!
Really love the type! I would have the sidebar static for desktop and go to hamburger for mobile.
Thanks everyone for your lovely feedback - how refreshing! :)
OK - so to explain a few things... the menu is present under the logo - the slide out will be for search, twitter feed, a small about (just registered widget areas as such) and therefore it's basically the sidebar - however - once down to mobile the menu will no doubt disappear from the top and appear in the slide out as a drop down select.
What's the reason for hiding the sidebar? I really want the focus of the page to be on the content / type and the least number of distractions, hence the slide out. No doubt if it doesn't fell right or something, then things will have to change.. but that's the plan thus far.
Maybe I need to alter the hamburger to something else when on desktops etc then swap out for hamburger when on mobile sizes... then it doesn't confuse.

Another shot showing the peek-a-boo footer on scroll I'm thinking of implementing for this theme. Also showing the blog index pagination. Content of the footer is not defined yet, still working on it :)
Also, no idea what happened on upload with the compression - it looks f*ck awful .... weird.
