In the Old Testament, it is written that Jacob wrestled with a man and would not let go until He blest him.

The man dislocated Jacob's hip when dawn broke and told Jacob his new name would be Israel because he wrestled with both man and God and won.

Additionally, when Jacob was born, he came out holding his brother Esau's ankle and as such, this picture shows him holding the ankle of a figure above him.
