Definitely clean; I love that treatment. A couple of nitpicks to really clarify things:
For one I should just echo the comments above about the colors along the side. Not really clear what they indicate: if they're random, they might be better rethought. If they're indicating tags, hopefully that's more clear when it's interactable.
Secondly, I think (if I remember correctly) that the Gmail app bolds the titles of messages you haven't read yet, and makes the preview text slightly darker as well. I think that does a world of good in terms of scannability, so it's something you might want to add in.
