I always liked the idea of their mark looking like a branding iron, but I've never been a fan of the aggressively italic and beveled version they've been using for the last decade or so. This is an idea I had to give the old mark a crisp look with a decidedly western prairie/native feel.
I like this, definitely has a retro feel to it. I don't know that it feels like a modern update though. It would look great on merchandise and fan gear for sure.
Being so close to Stillwater, I guess the Italicized mark has grown on me... True, the beveling runs the risk of becoming dated at some point, but I do like the forward motion of the current mark. Have you considered that at all? By the way, I really like how the spurs of the S contour the O and the U!
