Attempted to make Facebook feel a little more roomy & up to par with it's mobile applications without drifting too far from the familiar look. Let me know what you think!
I really like the timeline, but in my opinion the left navigation links stand so empty in the room, they could need a box as a background as well. And how would the live ticker look like?
It does feel just like the mobile version. Nice one! Just I don't agree with the status update box. It doesn't stand out, as I think it should. It feels to congruent with all the other items.
@Matt Zanchelli Silence shall be your answer haha. But I doubt it honestly. It's a fictive redesign, I personally wouldn't bother with CSS, getting the idea down as quickly as possible and being able to iterate quickly would be more important for me in this case.
@Alex Ribeiro ☁ I think what @Daryl Ginn means is that Chris may have overlooked certain aspects of the current platform to accommodate his redesign. However Daryl I fail to see anything critical that's missing to this redesign (except minor things like the footer). Care to elaborate a bit more?
I think the advantage of this design is it separates out each post more clearly. I'd be interested to see how you layout comments on each post. I find Facebook (and Quora) too cramped and difficult to scan.
It looks a lot better than the current Facebook but there are a few points that you should improve. This basically looks like a stripped down / mobile - web mix and by stripping it down you've lost functions that people actually like to use.
For example, I don't see the Facebook chat function in your attempt, I'm also missing the "sort by" functionality. But the first thing I noticed was that the input field to post a status update looks exactly the same as the comment / like section in status updates and that there's nothing that seperates the form with the status update feed.
I also think that you could've done something nice with the navigation bar because I feel that that basically makes your design less nice right now

I think the current structure works way better, this seems a little basic to me, no offence.

@Matt Zanchelli Wait, I think it actually is code. Look at the antialiasing on the text, definitely not Photoshop. Am I right @Chris Masterson?

You're onto something - but the images that expand outside their boxes are no good (personal opinion).

This is perfect. I love the simplicity.
