Toying with whether or not to have the opaque rollover on by default (fading out to reveal the photo on :hover), or leave leave it off so it only appears on :hover of the photo.
How about having only the heading shown (anchored to the bottom of the panel) with the full opaque rollover shown (scrolling up?) to reveal the supporting text on :hover?
I really like the look of this Robbie. Great work. Is that
FF Meta Serif Web Pro you're using, or something else? About to start experimenting with Typekit and looking for inspiration.

I think having the photo displayed by default and the text on :hover would be a good implementation.
