Have you thought about tinting the color of the mugshot to be a bright orange? it would tie together the theme of “unnatural color with natural shape” that is part of the extruded handwriting.

I don't want to add color to the photograph because I feel the grey is needed to keep the whole thing sort of visually centered around the text.
