I don't think the spikes are helping it, to be honest. It's tough to pull off that look without appearing dated. The sheer density of these letters really accentuates the gaps formed by the Ts. The other thing I'd look at when creating letters like this is to keep the counters/negative blocks of your letters the same width. The space in the center of your M, N and E is very thin compared to the others, which is normally desirable, but looks inconsistent on a blocky, grid-born letterform like you have here.
