Hi The hole idea with the side menu is really nice, but i have some tips for you.
1) Try to add drop shadow under that main section to make it more 3D this to flat (facebook app, path app)
2) Those elements in the side menu are to much devided - try to make that gradient softer (facebook). Even use full color and make there 2px lines as separators.
Cant tell you more without real pixels, hope this will help you :)

This looks good Philip, but how many menu items are you willing to display? Watch out they won't get to small because of finger size..

@Dreamix Studio Yeah, good question. I've been talking more with the client, and it looks like we're probably going to have 4 or 5. This means we'll be able to make them a bit larger and more substantial.
