One part of the camera redesign we rolled out today I'm really proud of (in a geeky way) is the custom camera shutter. Had a lot of fun designing this alternate version of the now famous Instagram icon.
Is it me or have you tweaked the visuals on both the nav bar and tab bar. They look much better, but I can't work out what you've done. Have you altered the saturation in the greys or have you removed the grain?
@Tim Van Damme Just Imagine if every start-up had a Tim Van Damme. Think how much more amazing using your phone would be. Great Job! Instagram is probably the best looking app alongside Square.
Might as well ask here as well as I've asked on Twitter, sent a feature request and emailed support with no receipt. PLEASE add a way for users to login to view their complete profile and delete photos in multiples. I really wanna clean up my feed but using the iOS is mind numbing as it does not remember your spot in the timeline. Love the new updates Tim! Great job! So much more elegant.
This is the only part of the update that I'm not so sure about. It feels heavy and robotic rather than light like the rest of the Instagram UI. Great job on all the other tweaks!
@Tim Van Damme The update is great Tim - forgive me for asking (as I'm only really used to digital cameras) but is the new shutter design based on anything real (an old camera shutter for example) or is it a case of 'it looks cool'? It's the only part of the redesign I'm not really sure about if I'm honest, so any reasoning behind that decision would be great :)
To say more than "I'm not a fan of this" no offense @Benn Mendelsohn -I think there is a heaviness to the bevel that isn't right for Instagram. For me it evokes a very plastic, Atari 2600 feeling. I think Instagram is more about subtly for the eye, gentleness, letting the user create, not having a very pronounced style. I feel Instagram needs to "recede" as a brand more.
If the entire app had this treatment and aesthetic maybe it would feel more accurate, more Instagram.
Needless to say, you have improved the design of this app 300% since coming on board-thank you!

@Andrew K I think he removed the grain and/or changed the color.

Have to admit, the new shutter feels super heavy. Love the other updates, thought!

I definitely agree with @Jack Bingham. It's executed beautifully but just doesn't feel to fit Instagram.

It is the only point where that design is placed, isn't it.
So, I do not think this is fits i the interface it was and still is.
Or... is it the first step to a more techie and industrial design of the whole app?
