I'm not a App designer, neither am I a IOS developer.
There are a few good apps in the Appstore at the moment, some are build up from the ground and others are just a clone from the twitter version. All the apps have great features but none of them are truly refreshing.
I threw this mock up together in PS based on the style of the App.net page and the clean looks of Twicca / Twitterific. I imagine the app to be gesture based, no tabs, toolbars that take up space when you don't need it...
I agree that it's frustrating not be able to code IOS apps when you have a lot of great ideas that you might want to prototype.
Now to the design. I think it looks neat and I really like the link color. A few comments. The slide navigation feels a but squashed in the middle (maybe separate them more) and it feels like it floats around too much. In the comment icon I feel like the second bubble is a reflected shadow of the first bubble – it might look better to have less of a contrast between them.
