Decided the move the voting button to the left onto the ribbon where the avatars were since thats what I want to call attention to. I also ended up centering the page (preview the whole thing here)
I love all the touches you're putting on this. I could be wrong, as I'm not considering the page as a whole, but maybe add a little more vertical whitespace between the comment/updates...
Just based on my first impression of this from the screenshot... so love the look and feel, but yes, definately feel the ribbons look a little too overwhelming. My thoughts are that it's not so much extra space, that they are a little too deep.
Also, have you tried flipping the photos to the right? My thinking is that you have the ribbons, then small photos with this white space underneath, then the text. May be worth aligning the depth of the ribbon with the text, so no up and downs with white space, so could look neater... then the photos ranged far right? Or maybe inset wit the text like a dropcap? So just reducing overall elements... :)
But been looking over previous shots and love how its coming together.
Wow, kick ass feedback Graham. I think you're onto something with the ribbon. When I have a design element I love I do tend to overplay it.
I initially had the photos in the ribbon and the voting to the right and I didn't like it, the text was too blocked in, both elements were of similar size and it just wasn't quite working.

Looking good brad. I can't help but feel that the avatars need some kind of border treatment. They seem so naked without one.

I agree with Trent. It's an awesome design, I just think the ribbons are becoming overwhelming when so close together.
