   What if counters were hanging down from underneath the bar? They seem to compete for space with the icons.

   @Alex Pankratov I'll try that, but guess I'll have to increase pills size then, with such a small shape they either blend with outer form or fall out completely.

   What about showing the counts only on hover? And then put just the "something new" indicator in every cell.

   @Alex Pankratov Won't do: this is a workflow system, so indicator is critical for the operator. Pattern is like this: more then 10 overdue tasks > time to switch activity and clean up this mess, not default: "oooh, something new".
   Anyway, thanks for the idea.
