    This is a NC concept animation I started on a long while back.

    The idea was that the moment your finger touches the status bar, it becomes a moveable element that you can then slide down to act as a sort pulley.

    I like to think of it sort of like a window blind. :p

    This is an interesting idea, especially if the iPhone version of the Notification Center worked like the iPad version and had dynamic length (based on the number of items – would go full screen if items extended that far).

    What's your thought on the conflict between tapping the status bar to return to the top of a scroll view and this?

    @Joshua Tucker Yeah, and it would also allow you to 'peak' at your notifications/weather, of course.

    Good point! I think the scroll-to-top function would only triggered with a quick tap, with anything other than that (tap and hold more than .Xs) would reject that action.

    @Newar Or if you put your Share widget at the top, you could easily tweet or post. User preference, of course :).

    And after you hold down for the allotted time, the status bar would transition to the grabber view that replaces it.

    Is the purpose behind this to create a smoother transition, make it harder to accidentally activate the Notification Center, just for fun, or all of the above?

    @Joshua Tucker Exactly.

    To be honest, this spurred out of a pet peeve/nitpick I have with the current transition. If you'll notice, when you slowly swipe down from the top, the NC grabber jolts down about 20px of the screen (more realistically, 40px). There's a lack of fluidity there, which always bothered me. I wanted something more fluid, visually. It's minor but, to me, uncharacteristic of iOS.

    In fact, the entire Notification Center is uncharacteristic. Using the linen texture for something that lays atop the screen, feels off. That's probably because it's always depicted as being 'below' the screen, or the underbelly of the OS.
