So instead of being productive tonight I randomly decided to spend a few hours and play around with Instagram's homepage. I am in no way suggesting this as a better solution, but more of a bored doodle on my part.

Looks great! Only thing I think theirs has that yours doesn't is a strong emphasis on "Free", yours fades back a bit too much for something that important. Otherwise I definitely like your redesign more! Captures the concept way faster. Great work—

@Noah: I agree 100%! To be completely honest, I forgot about adding it and forced it in the last minute :) But yes if this were an actual comp that would definitely need to be addressed. Thanks for looking out!

Looks good but I would really love to see that grainy grunge texture toned down and only applied to the wood. It feels really strange overlaid on the photos but not the other elements. The tagline is too dark IMO and de-emphasized compared to the logo wordmark. The login button clashes a bit w/ the overall colorscheme and I am not sure where the "snap a photo..." semi-transparent overlay disappears to...
Alright, way over analyzed that one, but hey, its all about the feedback right?
BTW, would you please stop pushing out awesome stuff all the time... maybe start watching more TV or something ;)

@Addison: Thanks man. That was simply due to laziness. I just pulled off one of the framed screenshots already on their site. Would be intended to rotate through similar to their current site. I agree though. They strive on the social aspect of the app so more emphasis on that would be ideal.
@Josh: Enough out of you! :) jk. Thanks for the feedback. I think the grainy grunge on the photos is a result of designer happy feet. Getting too excited to play with unneeded effects. Guilty as charged :) I debated a few options with the login button color. I didn't want to put too much emphasis on it so I tried to pull in those slight blue/grays from the icon but was probably a stretch.

Sounds like me the other day too, one of my professors got a page where she wants all her students uploading stuff up, and it was a simple text/link page, and I was like It needs more than that! So i "redid it". Check out my latest shot, you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, back to yours, that site needs an update, and I think you have done it, I'd bring it to their attention.. Great job man!

The texture looks a bit weird on the photos. Since all this is for fun, can you try using my redesigned interface in the mockup too.

What do the 4 polaroid icons do? As stated the Free needs to emphasized with a complementary color.

Really nice grain, I think that you should emphasize the freebie fact better also the login part seams a little strange not really fitting in ...
