Awesome. The lightening bolt was totally impersonal. This is perfect.
I just talked to a gal from Canada while standing in line to cash my chips out at the Flamingo. I asked her if she bought the extra travelers health insurance just in case, and she responded "OH HEAVENS YES."
Reading your reasons for it make total sense. I agree that this is better, as the lightning bolt is just a tad overused. One thing the lightning bolt did for me, however, is support that feeling of "industries" in the same way that a wrench or hammer might do.
My only question to you would be, "is Canada you?" or is it convenient that you like the shape of the maple leaf on your design and you happen to be canadian?
The only shared weakness I see with going BOTH the leaf and the bolt route is that they are both a bit unoriginal.
That being said, I think it looks fantastic and if you are a Canadian zealot, this may be the perfect mark for you! Just asking a few friendly design questions to my friendly designer friend. :)
i do see rogie's point that you could push even a bit further and find a more personal icon.
but if you stick with the leaf, maybe bulk it up so the contrast between te negative space around it is greater, as it's a bit lost in the top fringes right now. and maybe shorten the stem?

In the words of Bobby McKenna: "CANADA! CANADA! CANADA!"
Swapped out the lightning bolt for something a little more personal. Gotta represent the Great White North.

This is a far more personal logo without the lighting bolt. But don't worry, I even felt in love with the first version of the logo ;-)

It does feel a little weird mixing industrial and natural, but maybe it's good to be different here.
