   Type looks great! I think if you play around with some different colors you may be able to get the feel your are looking for. Maybe an off-white blue for the background? When I think of New Years I think of blue for some reason. Might just be me though -- keep up the good work!

   I agree, its definitely the colors that aren't fitting right. Instead of the mustard-ish color, use something like #47bed7 and see if that helps any.

   Font is crisp and flows well. I like it.
