Power Outage Preparedness

Editorial illustration for the City of New Orleans Emergency Preparedness Campaign discussing ways to prepare for a power outage.

1. Call 3-1-1 to signup for the special needs registry
2. Charge electronic devices before a storm
3. Sign up for weather alerts at ready.nola.gov/alerts
4. Keep generators outside and away from your home
5. Preserve cell phone battery life. Texting saves battery life compared to calling.
6. Stay away from low-hanging or downed power lines.
7. Use flashlights, not candles
8. If a traffic light is out, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
