Yeah, typically my process consists of a mix of vector shapes, pixel painting, and texture painting.
I just iterate a lot, I think this version of the HUD here is like the 5th version, and I've done a couple since then as well.
It's just doing something, then looking at it over a period of time, using it, then polishing things as i see them over time and as the game design changes. It's all very organic, because of how much game design tends to change throughout the entire process.
Hehe, yeah those bars are a little old, they are more glass-like when they are fluctuating up and down to show the transparency and when they are animating with that bubble animation i have in my hud prototype.
Do you have any feedback to improve on anything? What specific things would you do differently. Details, lighting, proportions, etc.

pretty good gui, but mana and health bar i dont like. does not look plasticity and not rhyme with the squares
