I wanted a "tile" that could potentially do three things: communicate its purpose, display notifications, and offer a shortcut. Informative buttons or "tiles" are really the way to go in this situation. It's kind of a shame they aren't used more often.

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought 'Windows Phone' when I saw this. Would make a great alternative skin!
Certainly a lot clearer than the existing WP UI - less noise.
