Scientific American - Getting Out of Silicon Valley's Shadow

I can't wait to get back to editorial illustration! I'm hoping to start taking on commissions again from the end of the month, all being well. I love the challenge of trying to come up with the best image to complement an article visually and conceptually, as well as learning lots of new things along the way.

One of the last illustrations I made before taking a break was for Scientific American. The article discussed how cities have tried to replicate the technology and innovation success of Silicon Valley without having the same "cluster" infrastructure (elements such as universities, investment and people.) This has led to difficulties when trying to develop industry at a rapid pace. The conclusion is that cities should do things their way and focus on matching their existing skills to a more digital globalised economy.
