Looks slick! I like the blue color at the near corner; the hue shift makes the thing look magical and supernatural. I feel like the icon could use lighter highlights, though, right now there's no white in it at all and the intense green highlights feel...off. The texture and pattern turned out well.
Also, as far as floor shadows, if it's anything complex I find it's worth the time to just make a 3D model [I've already got a template for it] and render a perfect drop shadow with no frustration. Still, if you & Lanham have some secret to good floor shadows in PS, go for it, and teach it to the rest of us someday ;)
@Ollin I don't think this icon needs any white in it. You see, I'm matching colors from the original icon, and it doesn't have any. In an effort to recreate it, I would do a poor job by including bright white highlights.
@Louie Mantia Is your goal to recreate it or improve upon it?
When I redo an icon, I make it my intention to improve upon the original in any way I can, including changing colors, materials, perspective, proportions: whatever I feel is necessary to create something beautiful. If your goal is to stay true to the source material-and that's a fine goal-then you've done a wonderful job and have nothing to change. If your goal, however, is to improve upon the original, then that is my suggestion for doing so. Nice icon, and good luck.
@Ollin Goal is to recreate at a higher res. (Orig is at 50px.) I don't believe by adding stronger highlights will "improve" the icon. Also, cool story bro.
