Working on my first iPhone app icon. This would probably be a base for our SmugMug camera app. I thought about bringing in more elements (buttons etc.) but I feel like it is better to keep it simple. What do you guys think?
No noise, not too much gloss, very touchable. The text on the bottom-right is all but lost on me, perhaps nix it or somehow make it more "worth it," visually?
Great point about the text, I was anxious to get feedback that I just rescaled the icon without adjusting the text. I think nixing is the way to go since no one will see the text that small anyway ; )
I agree with Kevin & Sebastiaan on the gloss on the back and the lens. I really like the little text detail, I think you should make it a bit darker and maybe add a embedded look?
First of all, thank you everyone for constructive feedback! Since this is my very first app icon, I highly appreciate the advice and direction. Anyway, I tried putting the gloss over the lens and it looked a bit harsh but fading out the reflection does help. I'll experiment with making the text larger.
@Vilen Not one gloss over everything. I would keep the gloss on the back except make it a normal iOS icon gloss. Than add a separate one for the lens glass.
Vilen I had something more like this for the reflection. As Jeff mentions, only having the reflection on the surface, and another on the lens itself (and not at an angle as Master Sebastiaan Kenobi mentions).
I am in favor of the text. It's not important to know what it says, but it does add a bit more depth and realism to the idea of the camera lens. Small details go a long way.
@Skins Factory, after thinking about more i decided not to use this icon for the camera app because it is too generic. This one of the reasons why I gave it away on 365psd.com However, it is a good way to experiment and practice making good icons. The actual icon will have a more unique look and tie in better with our SmugMug brand. Thanks for raising this question!

Love it as it is.

Yeah I agree, either make it more apparent or scrap it. Great icon all around though!

Very nice and clean. Maybe add a slight round reflection on the glass in front of the lens to add some depth :)

When in doubt, never add more. I'd make the gloss default instead of angular.

Gorgeous! I agree with Cocoia, keep it minimal. That said, there are a lot of camera lenses in the AppStore. This would be one the sexist ones though.

Simple is better, although the fine detail makes this lens look pretty complex. It's a great balance.

Anyways; it is really nice :)

Artistically, it's a very nice icon. Creatively, a camera lens centered in an icon has been done to death.
There has to be a more "inventive" way to promote your service. The logo is interesting, why not use it?

Awesome very clean! Is the corner radius correct?

Now that I look at it the corner radius feels a little too sharp.
