I think I prefer the no-text version of the toggles. To me the green/red make it obvious what the status is.

@Josh Green/red by themselves can be tricky for colorblind users.

In other toggles I've seen, the left state is usually Off and the right is On. Another good visual metaphor for toggles is the greyed off and a colored/lit on. (See iPhone toggles for an example.)

Ste makes a good point about colorblind folks, and an even better point about "Off" usually being in the left state.

But screw colorblind folks. ;) I kid I kid. :)

Yeah, the colorblind thing could be an issue, but if I'm not putting the text into the switch then there has to be some other visual queue.

The iPhone adds the text "on" & "off" to their sliders so they skirt the issue of needing any other visual queue.

What if the opacity of the New Replies is set back when it is off. So it looks deactivated?

Here's what I meant by colored/lit changes in a toggle. (I also switched the direction of Off and On.)

    Stephen,
Maybe the only one says off or on. Then you would know what the other one is (since there is only two states) I like the OFF text on the off state. Maybe the on could just be green and on the other side. Just another "idea". I think the color read is nice, but the visual read is (off/on) also helps solidify the design you have going.

Nice texture on the metals and love the look of what you have so far. Want to see more!

What about having a check for "on" and no check for "off"?

What if you rotated the orientation of the sliders a bit (like 15 degrees) and made it more vertical/angular like a switch. Might look terrible... :)
