Fixed the contrast issues in the 8-bit Glyde and added some highlights to the 8- and 16-bit Mimeos which does double duty increasing contrast and suggesting a cape. Muuuch better.

Shaun, I just realized something about Mimeo... he's a toddler in 2-bit, but big in 4–16-bit. What made you decide to do that? Just curious why not use a different size at all bit levels? Or the same at all bit levels?

I'm sure you thought about this. So rock on.

Originally Mimeo did get bigger with each resolution change but he quickly became too thin and out of proportion with the level and the 16x16 blocks he'd be interacting with. You can check out some of my older Mimeo Dribbbles to see what I mean.

Also, it's easy to see the difference between a 16 and 32 pixel high hole, not so much to differentiate between 16, 20, 24, 28, etc size holes.

I think despite identical silhouettes for the higher resolutions Mimeo still appears to be aging. At 4-bit he's innocently running through the world naked. 8-bit he throws on some pants and a shirt. Then the shading in 16-bit while adding depth also slims him down, trimming his baby fat.

The reason for at least two sizes, it's a Mario clone after all. I'm also a big Metroid fan. Think of 2-bit Mimeo (Mineo) as the Morph Ball :)

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining, I do appreciate that!

Cant wait for the game chief - reminds me of an old classic called 'wonder boy in monsterland' - yours looks like its going to be equally as addictive!

Interesting. Based on the morph ball comment, it sounds like it's not always necessarily best to be in 16 bit mode? In Mario, it's always best to be as upgraded as possible, but sounds like some areas won't be accessible unless in 2 bit mode?
