Guitarist Branding

I worked with the humble and masterful Jazz Guitarist, John McLean, to make him a series of print work that outlined his achievements, testimonials, and discography that are highlighted in press kits and in jazz publications for the next few years.

This was an intimidating client for me because I knew his tastes were specific. I was also aware of how masterful he is with his craft. He has a very traditional visual style.

He loves fine art, and I could tell his tastes also came through in his guitar playing. Everything he speaks and plays is with intention. It was no surprise to me, finding out that the Chicago Reader expressed that his playing could have pleased "Caravaggio."

In fact, the first time I saw him play it was clear to me, he had a deep understanding of music and its properties - and his choices to build upon those classic rules to create an expression of his own, was mesmerizing, really.

I enjoyed every second of searching, researching, meeting, watching, and pulling together an identity for him through type and color.
