   @Josh Miranda I made a few photoshop actions to help create my grungy stuff..each action is a bit different or more intense and i mix/match/rinse/repeat to get desired effect...but basically it's add noise > blur > smart sharpen > levels > rinse/repeat.

   @Evan Bozarth thanks man! what do you use to "rinse" or get rid of unwanted grain?

   @This Old Machine unwanted grain? you mean the noise/dirt around your image? well, if its on a white bg, pump the white levels a bit, or maybe hit it with the dodge tool...but those things usually get washed out by multiple passes and eventual vectorization.
